Directions to Our Practice
If you’ve never been to our practice before, here are two easy routes you could take, using the East Liberty branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh as a reference point:
- Get onto Penn Ave heading southeast, then turn right onto Shady Ave. Continue on Shady ave even in a couple places where it bends, then turn right onto Forward Ave, then right again onto Murray Ave. We’re in the same building as Starbucks, right after the gas station on the corner, at 2345 Murray Ave # 210.
- Alternatively, you could head west on Baum Blvd, then turn left onto Negley Ave. Turn left onto Wilkins Ave, then right onto Murray Ave. After about a mile, turn left towards Starbucks.

Shadyside’s story is one of gradual, remarkable transformation. The neighborhood began as simple farmland, and through the mid-1800s the city expanded into the area, eventually opening a train station that some believe gave Shadyside its name, inspired by the “shady lanes” that lined the route. With the station came commerce and industry, and the neighborhood began to take on a life of its own.
It was not until the 1950s that Shadyside began evolving into the sought-after residential community it is today. The neighborhood drew in a wonderful mix of people including affluent families, young professionals, students, artists, and musicians, all living among beautiful Victorian mansions, modern apartments, and cozy condominiums arranged in a compact, walkable layout that gives Shadyside its distinctly close-knit feel.
Today, the neighborhood is home to three thriving business districts along Walnut Street, South Highland Avenue, and Ellsworth Avenue. Because all three are within easy walking distance of one another, residents enjoy a remarkable variety of dining, shopping, and local culture. Walnut Street in particular stands out as the neighborhood’s most beloved destination, with its final three blocks serving as the lively heart of the district. There you will find Pittsburgh classics like Pamela’s Diner, beloved local shops like Kards Unlimited, and a handful of well-known retail names, all woven together in a way that reflects Shadyside’s unique character.
